About:
Anne Thomassen (b. 1966) is graduate with an MA in Ceramic Art Bergen Academy of Art and Design, Norway and also Kunsthochschule Berlin- Weissensee. Her work is included in The National Museum in Oslo and KODE in Bergen.
“I have always been interested in structures. Those who create the physical world; like the laws of physics and the amazing connections of chemistry and what creates society; the human language that binds us together. Both parts are building blocks that aim to provide understanding, but everything has its limitations.
Perhaps that is why I work with ceramics, which is one of the most important malleable materials that have been used since the dawn of time. There is something fundamental about it at the same time as it is a sculptural material with surfaces where glazes offer unlimited possibilities. Ceramics requires physics, knowledge, technique, time, effort and experience. It can become anything or it can return to the earth from which it came.
Working with art is a constant process where you constantly gain new experiences and ask new questions. Meeting between nature and man is what I dwell on the most. I grew up close to nature in northern Norway and live with the forest as my nearest neighbor now. I don't want any of this to be lost to my children and future generations."
